This marks the final post of the 21-day organizing challenge. I hope you have enjoyed the challenge, as have I. Thank you for being patient with me during the 21-day challenge. During this 21-day period, I have been swamped at work, my dad has dealt with a lot of health issues, and we’ve experienced the hospitalization and eventual death of another relative. To say our plates have been full is an understatement.  Rather than my family taking a back seat, I’d much rather my blog take a back seat. Now that things have calmed down, you can be sure we will be back on a regular schedule now.

21-day organizing challenge: Week one recap

Things have truly gotten busy at the Boone house in the past two weeks. In fact, I've barely had the time to DO the 21-day challenge, much less blog about it. I have done the challenge, though, and I've decided instead of making a DAILY post about the challenge, I'll do a weekly post. 

Originally, I had written days one and two as two separate posts, but for the sake of reading, I decided to make it easier. I also back-dated a few posts into weekly posts so I wouldn’t have to write one big, long, exhausting post. In the first week of the 21-day organizing challenge, we organized all of the following spaces in our house: kitchen cabinets, pantry and coat closet, entry way, desk and home office, bathroom cabinets, and linen closet. 

21-day challenge: Day one- kitchen cabinets

Welcome to the 21-day challenge, day one: kitchen cabinets.Before we get started, let me issue a quick disclaimer I failed to mention in my first post: To join the challenge, you do not have to do ALL of the daily challenge. For example, if all you organize is one cabinet, you have participated in the challenge for day one :)

Tis the Season to Re-organize

Christmas: 'Tis the Season to Celebrate our Savior. New Year's Day: 'Tis the season to make changes for the better.  Here at the Boone house, New Years 'Tis the Season to clean, put away Christmas decor, and re-organize.

Kitchen organization

I don't have a large kitchen in my house. We do, however, have a large pantry, so it doesn't really matter that our kitchen is small. Plus, the cabinets and drawers have plenty of room. My kitchen is cozy and I really like it. In a strange way, its small size forces me to keep it more organized.

Due to the layout, it's impossible to get the whole kitchen in one shot. I had to take a few pictures from different angles.

21-day challenge: spring cleaning during spring break

The 21-day challenge UPDATE

I used my spring break to do some heavy cleaning and organizing. My linen closet was a true source of frequent consternation for me, but my very handy daddy helped solve that problem. I also tackled kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, bedroom closets and under beds. Because I didn't want spring break to be all about cleaning and not at all about family, I didn't get to everything I'd planned.  I've also added a few things to my list that I have not yet tackled.

Linen closet overhaul- DIY

My linen closet was a source of great frustration in our home. It was built, I suspect, as an overflow space for the two master bedroom closets. I believe this because it contained two main shelves, two removable rods and a tall cubby shelf off to one side. Usable space was plentiful, but the way the closet was installed, most of that space was generously wasted. I had only two shelves to stack my towels, which were constantly falling into the floor each time you opened the door...which meant more washing for me. Something had to be done.

I honestly wish I'd thought to take a before picture, but I honestly forgot. This picture was taken shortly after the shelves were installed, but pre-paint. You can't see the cubby shelves from this angle.

Spring cleaning: the 21-day challenge!

Surely, if you're on Pinterest, you've seen this.

I know now that spring is upon us, most of us have plans to do some sort of spring cleaning. While I agree with most of the things on the list above, I have a few additions. Here is what I plan to add: 

1. Wash all bath tub toys

2. Wash all cloth toys 

3. Wipe down and disinfect all plastic toys

4. Donate anything unused for more than a year

5. Organize out of season clothing

6. Move furniture and clean beneath it.
